🔥 Childhood Nostalgia, All Grown Up: S’Mores Bread Pudding

Who doesn’t love a s’more?

Just the thought of one instantly brings back memories of:

  • Summer nights
  • Campfires
  • Sticky fingers
  • And trying not to burn the marshmallow while somehow always burning the marshmallow

But let’s be honest—most of us aren’t building bonfires on random weeknights.

Maybe you live in the city.
Maybe it’s raining.
Maybe you just don’t feel like smelling like smoke afterward.

That’s exactly why this S’Mores Bread Pudding is such a fun recipe.

It captures all the nostalgic flavors of a classic s’more—but transforms them into something warm, rich, cozy, and just a little more grown up.

✨ Why You’ll Want to Make It

This dessert has everything people love about traditional s’mores:

  • Chocolate
  • Toasty marshmallow flavor
  • Comforting sweetness
  • And that cozy “I want seconds” feeling

But instead of balancing graham crackers over an open flame, everything gets wrapped into a soft, decadent bread pudding that feels perfect for dinner parties, casual gatherings, or nights when you simply want something comforting.

It’s nostalgic without feeling childish.

And honestly? Guests absolutely love desserts that remind them of childhood in an elevated way.

🕯️ Perfect for Gatherings

One of the best things about bread pudding is that it naturally feels communal and relaxed.

It’s the kind of dessert that says: “Stay awhile.”

Serve it:

  • Warm after dinner
  • At backyard gatherings
  • During movie nights
  • Or as part of a cozy dinner party menu

It instantly creates comfort.

❤️ The Health Benefits (Yes, Even Dessert)

Now obviously, this is still dessert—and dessert should simply be enjoyed sometimes without overthinking it.

But there are still a few ingredients that offer nutritional value.

Dark chocolate or cocoa contains antioxidants called flavonoids, which may support heart health and help reduce inflammation.

Ingredients like milk provide calcium, protein, and vitamin D, supporting bone health and overall wellness.

And honestly? There’s also something to be said for the emotional comfort of nostalgic foods. Shared memories, comforting flavors, and moments of joy around the table absolutely contribute to overall well-being too.

Sometimes food nourishes more than just the body.

🥄 How to Make it

Oil for greasing
4 cups bread crusts or scraps, torn into bite sized pieces
2 cups half & half or whole milk
2 eggs
2 tbsp sugar
½ tbsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract
¼ cup chocolate chips
¼ cup mini marshmallows
2 tbsp crushed graham crackers

  1. Heat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease an 8”–9” round cake pan or pie plate.
  2. Scatter the bread evenly in the pan.
  3. Whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla in a medium bowl.
  4. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread. Let it sit 10–15 minutes so the bread soaks it up.
  5. Sprinkle chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, and crushed graham crackers over the top.
  6. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the center is just set.
  7. Cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm and gooey with some ice cream.

Makes 8 servings

✅ Easy, Easier, Easiest Ways to Make It

✨ Easy: Use pre-cut bakery bread cubes and store-bought graham cracker crumbs.

✨ Easier: Swap the homemade custard mixture for prepared vanilla coffee creamer mixed with eggs and cinnamon.

✨ Easiest: Use frozen French toast sticks or leftover cinnamon rolls instead of bread and skip adding extra sugar and vanilla.

🥂 A Little Bit of Magic

This dessert feels familiar in the very best way.

Warm.
Comforting.
A little playful.
And guaranteed to make people smile.

Which, if you ask me, is exactly what a great dessert should do.

Here’s to comfort food, childhood memories, and desserts that make everyone feel like a kid again.

🕯️ This Is the Year We Gather Again

🍽️ Dining Together Might Be the Way Back to Each Other

I love technology.

Truly.

I use it every single day, and most of the time it genuinely makes life better. I love being able to video chat with long-distance friends and family, send quick messages, share photos instantly, and stay connected in ways that weren’t possible years ago.

And when the pandemic hit in 2020, technology became a lifeline. It allowed us to work, celebrate birthdays, attend weddings, check on loved ones, and maintain some sense of connection during an incredibly isolating time.

But somewhere along the way, something else happened too.

The more connected we became online… the more disconnected we became in real life.

✨ We’re Craving Real Connection Again

So many people are longing for:

  • Real conversations
  • Shared experiences
  • Phones set down for a few hours
  • The feeling of simply being together

And honestly?

One of the easiest, most meaningful ways to reconnect is around a dinner table.

Not because the meal has to be elaborate.

Not because your house has to be perfect.

But because gathering around food has always been one of the most natural ways humans connect.

🥂 Why Dinner Parties Matter More Than Ever

❤️ Relationships

Have you ever tried to have a meaningful conversation in a loud, crowded restaurant?

Half the evening becomes:

“What?”
“Can you repeat that?”
“I can’t hear you.”

At home, people relax.

The conversation slows down.
Stories get longer.
Laughter gets louder.
And connection feels easier.

That’s the real magic of entertaining at home.

🥗 Health

Cooking at home is almost always healthier than dining out regularly.

When you prepare meals yourself:

  • You control the ingredients
  • You control the quality
  • You control the portions

Restaurants often rely on extra salt, sugar, butter, and oils to maximize flavor quickly. And while there’s absolutely a place for dining out, gathering at home gives you the opportunity to create meals that are both delicious and nourishing.

💸 Wealth

Let’s do the math for a second.

An $18 cocktail.
A $15 glass of wine.
Appetizers.
Entrées.
Dessert.
A babysitter.
An Uber or parking downtown.

Suddenly a night out for two can easily cost more than hosting a beautiful dinner party for six to eight people at home.

And when you entertain at home, you’re not just paying for food—you’re creating an experience.

One people actually remember.

🕯️ This Is the Year We Gather Again

I truly believe we’re entering a season where people want more meaningful connection again.

Less scrolling.
More sitting around the table.
More inviting people over “just because.”

And the good news?

Dinner parties do not have to be complicated to be memorable.

That’s exactly why I create my dinner party guides and eCookbooks—to help make entertaining feel approachable, manageable, and genuinely enjoyable.

Because once you realize hosting doesn’t have to be perfect…

You’ll want to do it again and again.

Here’s to shared meals, meaningful conversations, and finding our way back to each other one dinner party at a time!

Cheers,
Colleen 🥂

🍊 Your New Favorite Spring Cocktail: Blood Orange Bourbon Smash

There’s something magical about this time of year.

The evenings are longer, windows are open again, and gathering outside with a good drink in hand suddenly feels like the best possible plan.

That’s exactly where this Blood Orange Bourbon Smash shines.

It’s bright, citrusy, slightly herbal, and just cozy enough to carry you from cool spring evenings straight into summer entertaining season. The fresh blood orange gives the cocktail a gorgeous color and vibrant flavor, while the rosemary and honey add depth that makes it feel elevated without being complicated.

And honestly? It’s the kind of cocktail that makes people think you worked much harder than you actually did.

✨ Why You’ll Want to Make It

This drink hits that perfect balance between refreshing and sophisticated.

The bourbon brings warmth and richness, but the blood orange keeps everything light and lively. The rosemary adds an earthy, aromatic layer that makes every sip feel just a little more special.

It’s perfect for:

  • Spring dinner parties
  • Patio gatherings
  • Weekend brunches
  • Date nights at home
  • Or simply unwinding at the end of the week

And if you’re entertaining outdoors, this cocktail looks absolutely beautiful in the evening light.

🌿 Easy to Customize

One of the reasons I love this cocktail so much is how flexible it is.

Want it lighter and more refreshing? Add a splash of club soda or ginger beer.

Want it a little more earthy? Let the rosemary infuse a bit longer.

Prefer a sweeter finish? Adjust the honey syrup slightly to your taste.

It feels fancy—but it’s incredibly approachable.

❤️ The Health Benefits

While cocktails are always best enjoyed in moderation, this one includes several fresh ingredients with real nutritional benefits.

Blood oranges are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, particularly anthocyanins, which give them their beautiful ruby color and help support immune health and reduce inflammation.

Rosemary contains antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds and has long been associated with supporting digestion and circulation.

Honey provides natural sweetness along with trace antioxidants and antimicrobial properties, making it a lovely alternative to heavily processed sweeteners.

Using fresh citrus and herbs also means you’re getting bright, natural flavor without relying on bottled mixers or overly sugary ingredients.

🥂 How to Make It

2 oz bourbon
1 oz fresh blood orange juice (about ½ blood orange)
½ oz honey syrup (see below)
1 small sprig fresh rosemary (plus more for garnish)
Ice cubes
Optional: a splash of club soda or ginger beer for fizz or a lighter version

  1. In a cocktail shaker, lightly muddle one sprig of rosemary to release its oils.
  2. Pour in bourbon, blood orange juice, and honey syrup. Fill the shaker with ice.
  3. Shake vigorously for 15 seconds until well chilled.
  4. Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice.
  5. Add a small sprig of rosemary and a slice or wheel of blood orange.

Makes 1 cocktail

Honey Syrup: Mix 1 part honey with 1 part warm water until smooth. (Example: ¼ cup honey + ¼ cup water.) Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

✅ Easy, Easier, Easiest Ways to Make It

✨ Easy: Use a good-quality bottled blood orange juice instead of fresh squeezing.

✨ Easier: Skip muddling and make it right in the glass.

✨ Easiest: Make a “dump & stir” version using 2 oz bourbon, 1 oz store-bought citrus juice blend or orange juice, 1 tsp honey and a splash ginger beer. Pour over ice and stir.

🥂 A Cocktail Worth Savoring

This is one of those drinks that instantly sets the mood.

Fresh. Seasonal. Beautiful. Relaxed.

The kind of cocktail that encourages everyone to linger just a little longer around the table.

And honestly? Those are usually the best kinds of evenings.

Here’s to spring gatherings, citrus season, and cocktails that taste as beautiful as they look!

Cheers,
Colleen 🥂

🏡 No Dining Room? No Problem. You Can Still Host a Beautiful Dinner Party

One of the biggest misconceptions about entertaining is this:

“I don’t have the right house for it.”

People often imagine dinner parties happening in perfectly styled homes with giant dining rooms, endless seating, and magazine-worthy kitchens.

And while yes—I do have a dining room and that’s where we eat 95% of the time when we host…. That absolutely does not mean you need one. In fact, many newer homes don’t even include a traditional dining room anymore. And honestly? That’s okay.

Because entertaining isn’t about having the “perfect” space. It’s about using the space you do have creatively and comfortably.

✨ Five Ways to Make Your Home Work for Entertaining

1️⃣ Clear the Clutter & Find Hidden Serving Space

You’d be amazed how much usable space already exists in your home once you clear a few things away.

Temporarily move:

  • Decorative knick-knacks
  • Stacks of mail
  • Countertop appliances
  • Extra décor

Suddenly you’ve created:

  • A drink station
  • Dessert space
  • An appetizer setup
  • Or extra serving room

Don’t forget to use:

  • Console tables
  • Coffee tables
  • Side tables
  • Kitchen counters
  • Bookshelves with cleared surfaces

Your house likely has far more entertaining potential than you realize.

2️⃣ Let the Party Flow Through the House

Dinner parties don’t have to happen in one single room.

In fact, it’s often more fun when guests naturally move throughout the space.

Try creating “zones”:

  • Drinks in the living room
  • Appetizers in the kitchen
  • Dinner wherever seating works best
  • Dessert and coffee back in the living room

This creates movement, energy, and a more relaxed atmosphere.

3️⃣ Rearrange the Furniture

Sometimes the solution is simply looking at your space differently.

My sister rearranged our living room before our annual Christmas party to make the flow better—and we loved the layout so much we never changed it back!

Moving furniture can:

  • Open traffic flow
  • Create conversation areas
  • Add more seating
  • Or make room for a folding table if needed

You don’t know what works until you try.

4️⃣ Don’t Stress About Seating

Years ago when I only had four dining chairs, do you know what I did? When guests offered to help, I asked them to bring chairs. And guess what? Nobody cared.

People genuinely want to help. Borrowing chairs, tables, or serving pieces from friends and family is incredibly normal when entertaining. No one is judging your chair inventory.

5️⃣ Use Outdoor Space Whenever Possible

If weather allows, outdoor entertaining instantly expands your options.

A:

  • Patio
  • Balcony
  • Deck
  • Backyard
  • Or even a driveway setup with string lights (we actually had our wedding ceremony in our driveway and it was lovely!)

…can become a beautiful gathering space with very little effort. Sometimes the most memorable parties happen outside because people naturally relax there.

🥂 The Truth About Hosting

Guests rarely remember:

  • Whether your dining room matched
  • How big your kitchen was
  • Or how many chairs you owned

They remember:

  • How they felt
  • The conversation
  • The laughter
  • And the experience of being welcomed into your home

So if you’ve been waiting until your house feels “ready” to host… consider this your sign that it probably already is.

Here’s to creative spaces, cozy gatherings, and using what you have beautifully!

Colleen 🥂

🧀 The Parmesan Dressing You’re Going to Put on Everything This Summer

I’m warning you right now:

Once you make this Parmesan Dressing, you’re going to start putting it on absolutely everything.

Salads.
Vegetables.
Sandwiches.
Wraps.
Grilled chicken.
Dip trays.
Probably straight from the spoon at some point too.

Because first of all—it’s delicious.

But second? It’s incredibly versatile, which is exactly the kind of recipe I love having in my refrigerator during the warmer months.

✨ Why You’ll Love It

This is one of those recipes that instantly upgrades everyday meals without requiring much effort.

It’s rich and savory from the parmesan, bright and flavorful, and adaptable enough to become multiple dressings depending on what you add to it.

And let’s be honest—having one homemade dressing in the refrigerator that can work five different ways makes summer meals feel so much easier.

🌿 Make It Your Own

One of my favorite things about this dressing is how customizable it is.

You can:

  • Thin it with a little milk for a creamier, pourable dressing
  • Add fresh dill for a ranch-style flavor
  • Stir in red pepper flakes for heat
  • Add blue cheese for a bold dipping sauce

Or honestly? Leave it exactly as it is and use it as a dip for vegetables, wings, or roasted potatoes.

It’s the kind of recipe that evolves with whatever you’re making.

🧄 Easy Is Always Allowed

And let me say this loudly for the people in the back:

You do not need to make this difficult.

If you have a high-speed blender, great—you can blend chunks of parmesan beautifully.

But if purchased grated parmesan makes your life easier?

Use it.

Every single time.

Because homemade cooking should feel approachable, especially in the summer when we’d all rather spend more time outside and less time fussing in the kitchen.

❤️ The Health Benefits

Beyond flavor, this dressing also has some nutritional benefits that make it feel a little more balanced than many store-bought options.

Parmesan cheese is naturally rich in calcium and protein while also containing phosphorus and vitamin B12, which support bone health and energy production.

When using Greek yogurt , you’re also getting potassium and magnesium. Plus, many varieties contain live probiotics (“good bacteria”) that support digestion and may help balance your gut microbiome

Fresh herbs like dill can provide additional antioxidants and digestive support, while garlic and spices often included in dressings like this contain anti-inflammatory compounds and immune-supporting benefits.

And because you’re making it yourself, you control the ingredients—meaning fewer preservatives and unnecessary additives than many bottled dressings.

🥄 How to Make It

½ cup mayonnaise
¼ cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
½ cup finely grated parmesan cheese
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 clove garlic, minced
2–4 tbsp milk (to thin)
Salt and pepper to taste
chives or green onions

In a bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, parmesan, lemon juice, garlic, salt, and pepper. Add milk a little at a time until you reach a pourable consistency. Chill until ready to use. Serve garnished with freshly snipped chives or sliced green onions.

Makes 1 cup

☀️ A Summer Refrigerator Staple

This is the kind of recipe that quietly becomes part of your regular routine.

The one you keep in the refrigerator “just in case.”

And before long, you realize you’ve used it three times in one week.

Those are always the best recipes.

Here’s to easy summer cooking, versatile staples, and dressings good enough to drizzle on everything!

Save me a bite!

🕯️ Your Guests Are Not Hostages: The Secret to a Relaxed Dinner Party

One of the most important things to remember when entertaining is this:

You deserve to enjoy the party too.

It’s so easy as the host to slip into “event manager mode”—watching the clock, monitoring every detail, and trying to keep everything moving perfectly.

But the best dinner parties rarely feel rigid or overplanned.

They feel relaxed.

✨ Let the Evening Breathe

Some of my Dinner Party eCookbooks include activities woven into the evening—things like:

  • Movie nights
  • Game nights
  • Themed gatherings
  • Interactive dinner experiences

And while those elements add structure and fun, it’s important not to create such a strict itinerary that the evening starts to feel scheduled down to the minute.

A dinner party is not a corporate retreat.

People want to:

  • Relax
  • Visit
  • Laugh
  • Stay awhile if they’re enjoying themselves

The magic often happens in the moments between the plans.

🍽️ Timing Still Matters

Now, that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be any flow to the evening.

You do want to:

  • Serve courses within a reasonable timeframe
  • Keep food moving at a comfortable pace
  • Be mindful if guests need to leave by a certain hour
  • Respect babysitters, early mornings, and real life responsibilities

A good host gently guides the evening forward without making guests feel rushed.

Think of it less like running a schedule… and more like setting the rhythm for the night.

🥂 The Golden Rule

And here’s the biggest thing to remember:

Your guests are guests. They are not hostages.

They should never feel trapped in a five-hour evening they can’t gracefully leave.

Likewise, you shouldn’t feel trapped trying to force every planned detail to happen exactly on time.

If conversation is flowing beautifully, let it continue a little longer.

If dessert happens later than expected? That’s okay.

If you skip a planned activity because everyone is happily talking around the table? Even better.

🌿 The Best Gatherings Feel Natural

The most memorable dinner parties rarely happen because everything went perfectly.

They happen because people felt:

  • Comfortable
  • Welcome
  • Relaxed
  • And genuinely connected

That kind of atmosphere can’t be forced.

It happens when the host is relaxed enough to enjoy the evening too.

So light the candles, pour another drink, and let the night unfold naturally.

Here’s to relaxed timelines, lingering conversations, and dinner parties that feel effortless for everyone—including the host

Cheers,
Colleen 🥂
