🥚 The Appetizer That Disappears First Every Single Time

Every family has those recipes. The ones that show up at holidays, picnics, family reunions, and dinner parties. The recipes everyone expects to see. The recipes that somehow disappear before anything else on the table.

For my family, it’s these deviled eggs.

This is my mother’s recipe, and I honestly can’t remember a gathering where they weren’t a hit. Every single time I make them, people gravitate toward the platter, take one, come back for another, and before I know it, they’re gone.

In fact, if you’re planning to make these for a gathering, my advice is simple: Make extra. Trust me.

✨ Why You’ll Want to Make Them

Part of the beauty of deviled eggs is their simplicity.

They’re:

  • Inexpensive
  • Easy to make
  • Naturally gluten-free
  • Perfect for make-ahead entertaining
  • Loved by almost everyone

And while trendy appetizers come and go, deviled eggs never seem to go out of style.

They’re nostalgic in the best possible way.

Guests recognize them immediately, and there’s something comforting about seeing a familiar favorite on the table.

Whether you’re hosting a backyard barbecue, a holiday meal, a brunch, or a summer dinner party, they fit right in.

❤️ The Health Benefits

Deviled eggs aren’t just delicious—they also pack quite a bit of nutrition into a small package.

Eggs are one of nature’s best sources of high-quality protein and contain essential amino acids that help support muscle maintenance and overall health.

They’re also rich in:

  • Vitamin B12
  • Vitamin D
  • Selenium
  • Choline

Choline is especially important because it supports brain health and cognitive function.

Egg yolks also contain lutein and zeaxanthin, antioxidants that support eye health.

While deviled eggs are often thought of as an indulgent appetizer, they’re actually a satisfying, protein-rich option that can help keep you feeling full longer than many carb-heavy appetizers.

🥚 OG’s Deviled Eggs

Makes 4 servings (2 deviled egg halves per serving)

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • Salt and ground black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh or dried parsley

Instructions

  1. Place eggs in a saucepan and add cold water to cover by about 1 inch.
  2. Quickly bring water just to a boil. Remove the pan from heat and cover. Let eggs stand, covered, for 20 minutes.
  3. Immediately run cold water over eggs or place in ice water until completely cooled. Remove shells.
  4. Cut eggs in half lengthwise. Carefully remove yolks to a large mixing bowl and set whites aside.
  5. Mash yolks. Stir in mayonnaise and mustard until well blended. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Pipe or spoon yolk mixture into egg whites.
  7. Sprinkle with fresh or dried parsley and serve.

✅ Easy, Easier, Easiest Options

Easy: Purchase eggs that have already been hard-boiled from the produce, dairy, or deli department and proceed with the filling. Saves about 45 minutes.

Easier: Purchase prepared deviled eggs from your grocery store deli and simply garnish with parsley. Saves about 55 minutes.

Easiest: Purchase a flavored dip and serve it with pita chips instead. Saves about 60 minutes.
