When you’re planning a dinner party, it’s incredibly tempting to pull out all the stops. The elaborate menu. The signature cocktail. The extra course you absolutely don’t need but somehow convinced yourself you do.
And that’s where things can start to unravel.
One of the fastest ways to turn hosting into a source of stress is by committing to more than you can realistically (or joyfully) pull off. And we hear this advice everywhere in life — but when it comes to entertaining, it matters more than ever:
Keep. It. Simple.
🍽️ What “Simple” Really Looks Like
You don’t need:
- A seven-course meal
- Everything to be made from scratch
- A perfectly styled table and a welcome cocktail and an appetizer trio
You can:
- Buy high-quality pre-made items
- Ask for help (yes, really)
- Prep a little each day leading up to the party
- Set a hard stop 45 minutes before guests arrive
That last one is important. Whatever isn’t done by then? Let it go.
💛 Give Yourself Permission
It is absolutely okay if:
✨ You only serve one appetizer
✨ You skip the welcome cocktail
✨ You pare down the plan halfway through
✨ The menu changes at the last minute
The goal is not perfection.
The goal is a great night with your guests — and just as importantly, a great night for you.
Your guests will be happy. They’re there for the conversation, the connection, and the feeling of being welcomed. And you won’t feel welcoming if you’re overwhelmed, exhausted, or frustrated before the doorbell even rings.
Simple hosting keeps everyone happy — especially the host.
